As something we use on a daily basis and takes quite a hammering, it is important that our laptop is kept clean, both on the inside and the outside. So a weekly ritual is getting out the screen cleaner, air duster and other pieces of kit to keep it clean, bright and shiny. Every week, powering down the laptop, we use screen cleaner with a specialised cloth, use a can or air spray to clean out the fans and those hard to reach areas as well as give the mouse a good clean. (I don't know anyone who really can just use the mousepad all the time.) By doing this, not only are you keeping your laptop in tiptop condition, but extending its longevity by ensuring proper dust-free airflow to keep everything cool.
If you haven't got a cleaning kit then it is certainly worth investing in one. Amazon do a great range of pc/laptop cleaning kits, check them out.
Of course, the second part of the ritual is cleaning the inside! No, not literally, but removing and old junk you have downloaded, screenshots etc, tidying up the desktop and of course, emptying that overflowing recycle bin. Just 10 minutes a week and you can maintain a machine that looks good, and hopefully will last you longer.
