I first heard about Patni Top from my elder brother when I was a child. He had visited the place with his friends, and upon his return, he used to share many stories about it with me. Ever since then, I have always been looking for an opportunity to visit the place. I went near to it multiple times, but never made it to the place. It took me well over 2 decades to make it to the place. Recently, I arrived at the place, carrying all the old stories and a vague, imaginary picture. I wanted to explore the place of my own. I went there in off season but still appears to be like a heaven.

Patnitop is famous for its beautiful valleys and snowfall. Patnitop is a famous hill station located in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. People visiting Vaishno Devi shrine, during the winter season often like to travel to Patnitop. It takes around 2 to 3 hours to reach Patnitop by car or cab. I have been to Vaishno Devi on multiple occasion, but never made it to Patnitop. But when I got the chance, I made sure to relive the moment that I heard in my childhood. But my curiosity to know why the hill station named "Patnitop: made me to discover some unusual facts.

According to local folklore and history, a beautiful, clean water pond once existed in the lush green meadows of this area. The princess of the ruling kingdom used to visit the meadows and use this pond for her daily bath. Because of this royal connection, locals called the place Patan Da Talab. During the colonial era, British revenue officials found it difficult to accurately pronounce the name. Over decades of mispronunciation and incorrect record keeping by the Britishers, Patan Da Talab gradually transformed into Patnitop.

The hill station is situated at an altitude of above 2,000 meters. The hill station features wide green meadows surrounded by towering deodar and pine trees. During winter, the region turns into a snowy paradise where visitors can enjoy sliding and playing in the snow. My visit is limited to enjoy the natural scenic beauty. The hill station is surrounded by dense woods of deodar and Pine trees, offering peaceful nature walks and panoramic views of the Chenab basin.

As we enter to the meadows are, you will find many snacks counter at the counter. We need to descend in lower areas to enjoy the lap of mother nature. There are dedicated playing zones for the kids. Kids always looks for an alternate way to enjoy and these playing zone is developed keeping the interest in mind.

These were chargeable, and offering some earning resource to the local people. For the elders, the place is heaven in itself. While young couple may enjoy some romantic time, The place is a paradise for the photographer. I noticed there were many people busy in photoshoot. Even there is a professional photographer available to click your photos at a nominal charges. Towering cedar, deodar, and pine trees create rich natural framing, vertical lines, and dramatic light-and-shadow plays through the canopy. The location delivers sweeping vistas of distant snow peaks and deep valleys. How could I miss to click myself. I took few selfie and then get busy clicking the natural beauty that i was surrounded with.

Walking through the quiet deodar, pine, and cedar forests provides an immediate sense of peace and mental clarity. Although I missed on to enjoy the snow capped mountains due to off season, the open green meadows makes the landscape feel like a living postcard. I am sure, during the winter season the fresh snowfall turns the hills into a white wonderland. For the time, I enjoyed the lush green forests, panoramic mountain views, and open meadows that make it a peaceful retreat compared to crowded hill stations.

I find Patnitop as a quieter, safer, and highly exclusive mountain getaway, preserving its crisp mountain air and deep silence for anyone looking to find peace. It is not wrong to call it "heaven on earth" for their natural landscapes. I am waiting to make another round trip during winter to bring some Snowy picture and make some memorable moments.

In good faith - Peace!!
