So many people take Ash Wednesday as the perfect opportunity to start a fasting cure. However, to prevent it from damaging health, there are several aspects to be observed before and during treatment.
Religious conviction, achievement of the ideal weight or increase of physical well-being: the motivations for fasting can be innumerable. If you have decided to take a cure, the following general recommendations can help you.
For whom is fasting indicated?
Basically, anyone can fast, even if they should give up children, pregnant or nursing women as well as older people. The other contraindications to fasting include kidney and liver damage, heart disease and diabetes, as well as regular medication. Before starting treatment, it is therefore recommended to seek advice from a doctor.
The main basic rules
• The fundamental premise is good health.
• Do not fast for more than a week
• Prepare the body a few days before, giving up voluptuous goods and reducing the consumption of meat.
• After fasting gradually increase food intake, so that the body has time to get used to solid food. Start again with easily digestible foods such as rusks, honey, rice or lean meat.
5 tips to follow during fasting
• With the following "do's and don'ts" it will be easier to resist during the treatment.
• Fluid intake: drink a lot to avoid the risk of dehydration. In addition to teas and water, you can also consume fruit or vegetable juices. Regular fluid intake is recommended even if you do not feel thirsty.
• Absolute renounces: do not charge the body with harmful substances such as nicotine, medications, stimulants such as coffee, black or green tea or sweetened drinks.
• Listening to your body: devote yourself to the activities you want to do; a walk in the open air or a nap can, for example, be a cure-all. The important thing is not to undergo the pressure of any kind during the fast.
• Remove the plug: switch off the mobile phone and PC. As far as possible, avoid carrying out the usual duties and consciously taking the time for you.
• Promote evacuation: regularly empty the intestine with liquids such as sauerkraut juice, whey or warm water with magnesium sulfate and rinse the kidneys with plenty of water.
