The Dead Sea and The Suez Canal !!
The Dead Sea, where buoyancy is not an issue!
(Left Picture) My husband is floating by standing effortlessly in approx. 20 ft of water (in normal water, he would be sinking like a stone as floating is not natural for him). I always assumed the Dead Sea would be nasty...well...dead water. It is not! (Right Picture) It is beautiful, pristine and clear (at least when we were there :) Three other things surprised me about the Dead Sea water, my skin never got prunie from being in the water too long, I did not get cold like I normally do, and my skin felt wonderful.
We accessed the Dead Sea driving from Aqaba, Jordan. The left picture shows typical scenery that we saw. The right picture, unfortunately, shows just how much the Dead Sea has diminished since the year 2000. There are ongoing talks between Israel and Jordan to replenish the Dead Sea with water from the Red Sea.
The Suez Canal is a sea-level, 120-mile canal, which connects the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. It took 10 years to build and opened in 1869. The spacing of ships is determined by the distance it takes them to stop in 20 minutes if needed. Transit time is 12-16 hours.
Armed guard stations are spaced at 1 mile intervals (left picture). At the Great Bitter Lake we saw heavily armed helicopters patroling.
