Take it from someone who has WAY too much experience dealing with the US Air Force: it is comprised almost entirely of educated morons with their heads in the clouds, and always has been. One of my biggest enemies (whom I was rather fond of back when I was still a Marxist) was a Lieutenant Colonel, has a PhD in history, and is an absolute bellend to the point that I have dubbed him "the Doctor Dino of Reformists." He's not alone, either: James Burton and Daniel Ward are also idiotic hucksters who had the same rank.

I refuse to accept that we live in dumb times just because the Air Force is doing something really stupid... as usual.
