If you want the benefits of a generator, but you don't want to have to pay for all the petrol you'd normally use, then remove the dynamo and attach it to a steam engine. I'm not kidding, by the way, and I'm actually thinking of doing that myself. Then again, if you don't have an abundant source of wood, as I do, that might not be a practical alternative.
