Farther up the tree from the Hyptiotes snare was a much messier but equally distinctive web. If you look closely, you can see that the inside, where the spider is sitting, is a dome. This is characteristic of Prolinyphia marginata, a.k.a. the Filmy Dome Spider. I wasn't able to get a good enough view of the spider itself to confirm its identity, but it matches the description perfectly, at least from where I was standing. I have had other people tell me about a similar web, where the inside is a perfect sphere. If such a thing exists, then it's probably from another species in the same genus. However, I don't think such a thing does, since the dome is the actual snare, scattering light and attracting insects to fly straight up into it.
