Last Saturday, Vienna, when I visited a friend who lives close to the Danube. In the past the Danube´s river bed was kind of wild with regular floodings. So app. 100 years ago they "regulated" it, creating a new, more straight river bed. Many small branches from the former river like this exist still today and are integrated in parks, etc.
