Player-minted spell and items will soon become part of our decentralized gaming metaverse. How will they work? It's pretty clear by now that they'll work kinda like tactics work now in the tactics screen. With that in mind, I wanted to start imagining what they'd be like 🤔
"If summoners and units are the car, then items and spells are the gas."
"PELACOR FIRETORCH" is an item. It's basically a magical staff that acts like a mad max flamethrower. Below is some potential art. Rather than just having a picture of the item by itself, I'd love to see item cards with a picture of the item being used. Kinda like an action shot if that makes sense? For this one, I tried to keep it within the current "Pelacor" style in-game art.
If you look at all the "Pelacor" cards they're pretty diverse characters, but generally all are human looking in the face. I think this fits with the current "Pelacor" meta? A new badass pelacor fire angel weilding the PELACOR FIRETORCH.

Below is the item card. I lifted the current rebellion card border and modified it slightly, but it's stil basically like a regular SPL rebellion card border. It has a mana cost. It has splinters. For example, PELACOR FIRETORCH is a dual-splinter fire/life item that costs 4 mana to summon. It allows you to give either BLAST or REDEMPTION to 2 units during the tactics screen.

There are a few ways to imagine how spells and items will work, but the simplest would be giving them their own mana cost. Just like units and summoners now. Except you'll be spending "spell and item mana" in the tactics screen, not in the pre-battle screeen. This means that when you select the summoner and units for your lineup in the pre-battle screen, you'd need to LEAVE SOME MANA TO SPEND IN THE TACTICS SCREEN.
For example, if you wanted to summon the PELACOR FIRETORCH in a 30 mana battle, you would only be able to spend 26 mana on a summoner and units during the pre-battle screen, and then use the remaining 4 mana to summon the PELACOR FIRETORCH during the tactics screen. On the other hand, if you used all your mana on a summoner and units during the pre-battle screen, you wouldn't be able to summon the PELACOR FIRECTORCH (or any other items or cast any spells) in the tactics screen.
There are other ways items and spells could operate, but to me this seems like the most seamless because it syncs directly into the current model of SPL gameplay.
Again, there are a few ways spells and items might work, but to me the simplest would be for an item or spell to be burned after its battle. Think of it like this, if summoners and units are the car, then spells and items will be the gas.
"We need CHURN and BURN, not saturate and stagnate."
So, unlike units, items and spells will not be reusable 😵 Also unlike units, items and spells will have have no level. In other words, 1 rare item is 1 rare item. You won't have to combine multiple items into higher level items before using them in higher levels of gameplay.
Please use the comments below to tell me what you think? Is this how you see spells and items working? Or do you have better ideas?
