At the age of 28 years old, Jean-Michel Jarre composed the album " Oxygène " in his kitchen. Using the Moog analog synthesizer, he succeeded in transforming the experimental electronic music of that time ( 1976 ) into popular music. Thanks to the success of this album, he installed a recording studio in his new house. The two following years of work led to the absolute masterpiece " Equinoxe " ( 1978 ). No lyrics as usual as the artist wanted to let free the imagination of the listener.
Analog synthesizer versus Digital synthesizer : In the 70's, the electronic signal producing the sound could not be perfectly stabilized. The temperature of the room could affect the components and produce a different sound than expected. In the 80's, the sound was digitalized into 1 and 0 sequences to stabilize and memorize the signal. The final result could then be the same over whatever period of time had passed between two recording sessions. Jean-Michel Jarre is nostalgic about analog instruments as some mistakes induced many creative discoveries.
