In every situation we partake, we bring our own contribution. It doesn't matter if that event is a positive or negative one. It could be a conflict or a joyful one. You have to realise your own contribution to it.
Often, we step up when it's about sharing the laurels, but we shift the blame as soon as a problem arrives. Does this sound familiar to you?
I won't talk about the positive situation as those are relatively easy to handle. You just have to accept the prize and bask in the glory of your achievements.
The negative situations are a little bit more tricky. Because they appear more often and cause a lot more problems. And most of the time, we take a step back from the situation and say: “not my fault”, “not my job”, “it wasn't me”. But we aren’t infallible. If we are really honest to ourselves, we have a little part in the matter. Always.
When I started to think this way, my life changed. I started to take a shift for the better. Because when you realise your own contribution, you don’t start to blame and to argue, but focus on finding solutions.
Shifting your mindset can do wonders. Here are some benefits of the “What’s my contribution” mindest:
1)You solve your problems faster
With this mindset, you focus on solutions. You don’t try to blame anyone. You try to find the cause and fix it. The time spent arguing and pointing fingers is rather spend on solving.
2) You became a better team player
When arguing and bickering has made a team stronger? Being true to our own contributions in every matter will help you bind the team together. And work better in the future. People appreciate when you don’t fight with them all the time.
3) You become more productive
Solving problems. Binding the team. What does this leads to? A more productive team, right? When you have a cohesive group, that instead of arguing and shifting blame, they work together to do the work, the productivity rises up.
So next time, ask yourself: “What’s my contribution to this?” and everything will be a little bit better.
