The prototype code for Precious 2.0 has been running over the weekend and it is now mostly stable so it’s a good time to get into a bit more detail about how things have been implemented. One of the really exciting features being introduced is the Vote Accruals so today we will take a bit of a deep dive into how this feature will work.
Just like now, Precious 2.0 will have membership tiers with a daily vote allowance but instead of this being a fixed size vote that you either get each day (or miss out on) it can build up if you don’t use it. This means you can save up and get a big fat upvote on a quality post that you’ve been working on for days. Or you can spread your vote out over a couple of smaller posts if you’d prefer. The main restriction is that you can’t get more than 1 vote in a 12 hour period, so if you’re a member who posts more than once a day you will need to space your posts out by more than 12 hours if you want to receive your daily vote allowance split across both posts.
The calculation for what percentage vote you get is based on the time you received a previous vote - which is stored and updated in the database each time you get a vote from Precious 2.0. When the program detects a new qualifying post (after at least 12 hours has passed) it calculates the number of days that have passed since your last vote and multiplies that by your daily vote allowance to figure out what percentage vote you will get. So, for example, if you are on Bronze Tier with a daily vote allowance of 6% and it’s been 3.5 days since your last qualifying post then you will get a vote of 6 x 3.5 = 21%
What this means is that you don’t have to post every day to get a benefit from subscribing to Precious 2.0 and a lot of smaller, newer and/or less active members will be able to get good upvotes to promote their quality content. Even if you only post about precious metals once a month, it will be worth signing up to the lowest tier because even that tiny daily vote allowance will build up and make your participation worthwhile. This will be really important when SilverGoldStackers community really starts growing and recruitment picks up again as it will help incentivise new members to invest in producing their own content that the whole community can enjoy.
It is important to point out that vote accruals will be capped at a 100% vote weight and they will NOT be rolled over. So if you are on one of the higher membership tiers and want to make sure that you’re not missing out then you’ll need to make sure you are posting regularly enough to ensure that your vote doesn’t stay maxxed out at 100% for too long.
