That's interesting that the quality of bananas making it to Europe in early 20th C was poor - it makes sense as even if they were picked green, it would take a good week or so to travel across the Atlantic.

I think all fruit growers at the time operating in South America were quite exploitative, and I doubt the Norwegians were much different!

The image is taken from my own website - History0x.com . As for the original, found somewhere on the internet, maybe Reddit, RareHistoricalPhotos.com or somesuch. I have no idea who original photographer was, but it's over 100 years old, so probably impossible to know!
