It's basically a nationwide grassroots project where people paint and hide rocks so others can find them, and hopefully brighten up that person's day.
A pretty worthwhile thing, if you ask me!
We like to participate here. We hide rocks in our local towns, in various areas. Around busy shopping centers, near libraries, in parks, and any other place you think people might find them. My daughter, @SnekLady, especially enjoys doing this.

She even has a special bag that her grandma gave her to hold the rocks while she hides them and searches for rocks hidden by others. It's kind of like an easter egg hunt!
@SnekLady has been experimenting with a new technique, involving putting blobs of paint on the rocks, and using a stick, (or the back of a paintbrush), to swirl the colors together. The results are pretty cool!
Two handy tips we have learned from rock painting are to use acrylic paint, rather than poster paint. (Poster paint peels off!), and when you are done, spray it with clear coat! It makes the paint last longer, and gives it a lovely shine.
This is a fun, inexpensive activity for kids to do! I encourage anyone to have their child find and paint rocks to hide. It might brighten up someone's day, and the kids LOVE it! They enjoy looking for rocks others have hidden as well, so if you live in an area where many people are doing this, they may find some beautiful rocks to keep as well.
