On the flip side you can look at the fact that both games have been out the exact same amount of time. Why does splinterlands user counts almost 5x sometimes 7x GU's concurrent players. Also as a person who plays both splinterlands is far easier to get into since they allow PayPal. And until just two weeks ago you had to pay ridiculous gas fees to get your ETH on layer 2. Even with moonpay to get ETH onto layer 2 you still have to pay crazy gas fees to cash your money out. I play both games and love them both. But I would never say one is better then the other as they both have their short comings. I do feel currently Splinterlands has an edge. Lets hope GU has a great 2022.
