Back in January, we decided to take the plunge to go all in on an incubator. We took a road trip and met up with a fellow YouTuber and purchased an incubator and hatcher from him. We made a video of the road trip and everything and you can watch it below.
We got a GQF cabinet incubator along with a GQF hatcher and I tell you what, we have been busy ever since. The quail and chickens just keep popping out of them and we just keep eating or selling them.
Honestly, poultry has never been a very interesting topic for me (Mike). We started this whole homesteading thing, like most people, with some chickens. And, with that, we mainly did it for our older daughter and thought that the bonus of eggs was pretty cool. Down the rabbit hole of homesteading we went and chickens, of course, stayed an integral part of our lives. But, it wasn't until the last 6 months that interest in them as a viable source of income and food peaked.
We started off making a small chicken tractor (our very first video ever! Watch below) just to see what the fuss about them was. We really loved what it did not only for the chickens, but the pasture itself. We had never seen such green grass. So, after purchasing 2 different styrofoam incubators, we knew we had to go larger and jumped off the deep end and got the cabinets. Now, there is no limit to what species of bird we can hatch. And now, with the addition of ducks to the farm...we'll keep it running plenty.
