Invite a friend — Private Rooms now have links

Splinterlanes is a three-lane way to play Splinterlands: two players battle across a Friendly Lane, the Command Lane and a Hostile Lane, using Decks built from their own Splinterlands cards. Most battles are Ranked, against whoever the matchmaker finds. But sometimes you want to play someone in particular, and until now that meant agreeing a room name and having both of you type it in.

Now a Private Room comes with a link you can send.

Send the link

On the battle lobby, the Private Room tile has a new button: Invite a friend. Press it and you're in a fresh room of your own, waiting for an opponent, with the invite link right there:

The waiting screen: the room's name, the invite link, and a Copy invite link button

Press Copy invite link and paste it wherever your friend is: Discord, a Hive comment, a chat message. On a phone there's a Share… button too, which opens your phone's own share menu. Stay on the waiting screen and the battle starts the moment they arrive.

The link works for any Private Room. If you'd rather name the room yourself, type a name on the tile and enter it free or for stakes, and its waiting screen shows the same link.

What your friend sees

The link opens Splinterlanes with your name on the invite:

A friend opening the link on a phone: "@splinterlanes challenges you to a battle in Private Room duel-qvjb1f — free play. Sign in and the room is waiting for you."

If they aren't signed in yet, they sign in with Hive Keychain (a Posting-authority signature only, the same as writing a post) and land back on the invite. Then it's one button, Join the room, and the battle starts. They can also press Not now and go on to the lobby.

Private Rooms need a Splinterlands Spellbook on both accounts. If your friend doesn't have one, the invite tells them where to get it.

Free or for stakes

Whoever enters a room first sets what kind it is, and the invite tells your friend which kind they're joining:

  • Free: no Tickets, no prizes. Free rooms can also be paused by either player, and switched to Slow Mode (10 seconds per decision) or Turn-Based play if you both agree. That's handy when you're teaching a friend the game.
  • For stakes: a fixed 1 🎟 each, per battle, and the winner rolls a real card prize. Both players need a Ticket.

Rating never moves in a Private Room, either way. When a battle ends, New match on the result band starts a rematch in the same room. In a stakes room you both press it, because it costs each of you another Ticket.

Bring someone

A friend who has never played can learn the rules in the How to Play guide, and the Splinterlanes FAQ answers the usual questions about cards, Tickets and prizes before they sign in. Then send them a link and play your first free battle together at splinterlanes.com.
