Moxie Marlinspike (creator and ex-CEO of Signal) is pretty heavy into cryptography, not so much into crypto. But he did create several dapps for Ethereum. One of his "experiments" was to see how decentralized NFTs are.

NFTs generally do not store that data on-chain. Instead of storing the data on-chain, NFTs instead contain a URL that points to the data.
