The first job I got was a secretary job at a rental company in my vicinity specially called Jiggy rentals.
I can't ever forget the mixed feelings I had when I got my first ever paying job.... I was happy and was sad at the same time
I was happy the job was going to offer me money which I'll sort out my pressing needs with and at the same time I was sad and scared because I got the job when I didn't gain admission into the University and I was asking myself if was how it ends for me? If I will eventually end up in life as a secretary to a company, not even a worldwide company but a mini company not known throughout the whole state.
Picture is Mine
My stay in my first job was really eventful and fun.
It entails me coming early in the morning and staying till night taking orders from people that have one occasion or the other such as weddings, burials, naming ceremony and others who will be needing our services and also stating in the book their location and the date they need our properties to be delivered to them.
It was easier for me since the prices were fixed and I didn't have to spend hours bargaining prices with customers, hehe.
It was also fun for me because it was near our house so I always pop in and out to take food whenever it's ready and by so doing save atleast 90% of my salary.
I can't forget to say how it made me see almost all the movie within that period because I literally had nothing to do except when the customers come around and even when they do, they don't stay for long after placing their demands... Hence it offered me ample time for my movies, hehehe.
Whatever has a beginning in life has an end, perhaps, that's why life has an end also, hehehe.
I had to say goodbye to my first paying job as a secretary when I got admitted in the University.....Who knows, I might still be there if not for this admission.
Life offers us a lot of package and every step in life has a lesson to teach us if only we could open our minds to the lessons it comes with. In that same way, my job had a lot to offer me and I was very keen to pick up some of them which has been helping me all through my life till this very moment even...
Punctuality
My job was the very first place I learnt of the importance of punctuality.
Coming early to work was a criterion to earn my pay at the end and whenever a customer comes around and didn't see me, he or she will keep calling me till I come to work, hence , this made me to always wake up and prepare early to avoid the series of calls.
Accountability
My job required me to be accountable for every penny I collected. When one cent is missing, the implication is that our properties won't be sent to the customer... Can you imagine the drama that will go on if a customer paid for everything but ended up not receiving them because of my carelessness?
Life is hard
This was a subtle lesson I learnt while working for my first job.
Throughout my stay in my first job, I always asked myself if this was how I will make it in life?
If this was how I will save up to feed my family and someday build a house of mine?
I had so many unanswered questions because the salary I earned then will never be enough to even get me married and in these thoughts, I really saw the real life events and knew that indeed, life isn't a bed of roses, you literally have to work like elephant before you could find your footings in this world unless of course someone paid the price for you.
If I have the chance, will I go back to becoming a secretary?
Well, I have two conditions before I could go back to there of which without, I won't even think about it...
Firstly, I will go back to my first job if the salary is increased to something nice.. something that could atleast contend with the high cost of living we currently suffer in our country.
Secondly, I will go back to my first job if I'm retired.
It's a job with less stress and yet located at the heart of the city where you get to see a lot of beautiful human beings going about their various day to day activities... A perfect job for a retired man.
Our first jobs most times opens our eyes to the realities of the world and it's always a great breakthrough in our financial mindset as we get to make money for ourselves and see that indeed, it's not easy to make money and this will help restructure our thoughts and expenditure habits
Thanks for reading and have a nice day
