Penguins give their partners a pebble as a present to form the bond of their life.
Penguins are also know to stay with one partner for their whole life. They live in the antarctica which is located at the southern side of our planet. The areas that far south are not very populated by humans and this is why they almost entirely live in freedom.
Most animals are not bond to one sole partner. They organise in harems - for example lions or monkeys. There is mostly one male and a handful of females. When the old leader of a lion harem dies, the new leader will even kill the babys from the other male. This was just another fact that I remembered while writing this.
So why do penguins only mate with one partner? We don't know for sure - but they are not the only exception. Sea horses are also known to stay with a partner for their whole life.
Some animals like penguins are even somehow materialistic. They really give their partner a pebble as a present. Well to be specific - the MALE penguins give the female penguins a present. Does that sound familiar to you?
