The Quokka is the happiest animal on earth.
The Quokka is said to be the happiest animal on earth because it is always smiling. No matter on what perspective you are taking the protograph it will always smile.
Of course it is not because it is actually that happy. Smiling is a human emotion expression and the Quokka obviously does not know that. It is just his natural face expression. It looks as it looks despite of what it feels.
But funny that nature made it that way! Would have been worse if it would look like always grumpy, eh?
The same applies to more familiar animals. How do you know a dog is happy? Mostly because it is waving it's tail - but facial expressions are differently understood by animals than humans.
