La vieja is a game for everyone
La vieja is a board game that can be played at any time and with anyone, regardless of age, from children to senior citizens. In other countries it is known by these names:
El tres en línea, also known as ceros y cruces, tres en raya (Spain, Mexico, Ecuador and Bolivia), cerito cruz (in Cuba), michi (in Peru), triqui (in Colombia), cuadritos, juego del gato, gato (in Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico), tatetí (in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay), totito (in Guatemala), triqui traka, equis cero (in Honduras), or la vieja (in Venezuela).origen
I could not avoid mentioning how it is called in these countries and in some with a very curious name, as you can see, it is a very popular game.
You don't need many materials to play it, just a pencil and paper or a chalk or marker and a blackboard. That's how I used to play it in my school days, in high school or even in college, we used to kill time waiting for a teacher playing the old one. It is one of my favorite games because I always won it 🥳 and this game has a trick that today I am going to show you so you can be a champion playing la vieja with any opponent.
The board of this game is a square of 3 * 3 Just draw 2 vertical lines and divide them with 2 horizontal lines; so you get a board with 3 vertical squares and 3 horizontal squares. It is played between two people and each one must choose which symbol he/she is going to participate with, it can be the X or the O.
Each player places the symbol once in his turn and then it is the turn of the other player until the complete square is completed or until there is a winner, in some cases there can also be a tie where neither of the two wins. 😪
It is a game of mental agility and also has its technique or strategy. You must be observant and anticipate the possible move of the other player. Yes, you start, you have more chance to win as long as you start with placing your symbol all over the center of the square and this is the tip I want to share with you. If you place in the center of the table your symbol, for example, the X, you will have more chance of winning.
Since this position allows you to give anywhere in the square your second move, you will be able to have in vertical, horizontal or inclined position the 3 symbols. The first one to get all 3 symbols in any of these positions wins by drawing a line over them and the game is over. Of course, the idea is to do it quickly. This game contributes to your mental agility.
Playing with my family
My family had lost the taste for games, since the daily routine did not allow us to set aside time for family recreation, but motivated to participate in the community, I started sharing with this game: the old woman.
The first one I invited to play was my brother Luis, he told me that when he was in school his classmates played a lot and invited him, but he did not play because he did not understand the dynamics, now he understands it and we played a few games, where most of the times I won 😁 others we were tied and to finish I gave my brother the opportunity to beat me, 🥹 he was very happy because it is very satisfying to feel like a winner, he really deserved it.
Then I played with my aunt, she couldn't stay without playing, although I explained to her, she didn't understand me. She is Down syndrome, but as she is a bad loser, I beat her in every game and she didn't want to play anymore. 🤪😂.
My last opponent was my mom, according to her she didn't want to play, but at one point she had a lot of fun and, look how she came out in this careless picture, she didn't beat me because she only cared about making me lose. 🤪.
