Today I want to give you a tour of the open spaces of a very important plaza. This is the largest square in my country, Venezuela and also in Latin America, the Bolivar Square in Maracay. The squares with this name were designed to honor one of the most illustrious men of all times, since he set a precedent in politics, geography and history of many countries in America and for his strategies in war and famous thoughts and his life story is remembered in other continents, Simon Bolivar the Liberator.

Hoy quiero darte un recorrido por los espacios abiertos de una plaza muy importante. Se trata de la más grande de mi país, Venezuela y también de Latinoamérica, la plaza Bolívar de Maracay. Las plazas con este nombre fueron diseñadas para rendir honor a unos de los hombres más ilustre de todos los tiempos, ya que marco un precedente en la política, geografía e historia de muchos países de América y por sus estrategias en la guerra y pensamientos célebres y su historia de vida es recordado en otros continentes, Simón Bolívar el Libertador.
I have known this square since I was a child because it is located in the capital of my state and it is in one of the most important avenues. It is a mandatory tour when you go to the capital of Aragua. Also, in previous years I worked and lived nearby, I just did not know the historical importance of this square.
I had heard that it was the largest in Venezuela, but I did not know its history and thanks to the architecture and design community of hive I learn something new every time I post because I research about what I come to show, let's remember that architecture is always related to culture and its history.
The day I took the pictures I was in a course, the first of December 2023, when everything was over it was already noon and I had to walk several blocks to go downtown, crossing the entire Bolivar square of Maracay, the sun was shining and the sky looked so blue and clear, and in other parts with beautiful clouds that made me want to contemplate the surroundings, The first thing I photographed was the IAES "Institute for Advanced Health Studies" from far away you can see the green area decorated with large chaguaramos palm trees in front, it is a large building with red tile roof and huge doors, inside is very beautiful, a few years ago I toured it, it is likely that in the future I will do a review.
Conozco esta plaza desde pequeña por encontrarse en la capital de mi estado y estar en una de las avenidas más importantes. Es un recorrido obligatorio cuando se va a la capital de Aragua. Además, en años anteriores trabajé y viví cerca, solo que no conocía la importancia histórica de esta plaza.
Había escuchado que era la más grande de Venezuela, pero no conocía su historia y gracias a la comunidad de arquitectura y diseño de hive aprendo algo nuevo cada vez que publico porque investigo sobre lo que vengo a mostrar, recordemos que la arquitectura siempre tiene relación con la cultura y su historia.
El día que tomé las fotos estaba en un curso, los primeros de diciembre 2023, cuando todo terminó ya era medio día y me tocó caminar varias cuadras para ir al centro, cruzando toda la plaza Bolívar de Maracay, el sol resplandecía y el cielo se veía tan azul y despejado, y en otras partes con lindas nubes que me dieron ganas de contemplar sus alrededores, lo primero que fotografíe fue el IAES “Instituto de Altos Estudios de la Salud” desde lejos se ve el área verde decorada con grandes palmeras de chaguaramos en su frente, es un edificio grande con techo de tejas rojas y unas puertas enormes, por dentro es muy hermoso, hace algunos años lo recorrí, es probable que en un futuro le haga una reseña.
Walking in the same direction, arriving at one of the corners of the square, you see the imposing Sindoni tower, which is the most unique building in the city and representative symbol of the state, in fact it is in the logo of the Hive Aragua community. It also deserves to be brought to the community. This tower is near the plaza, one block away. Every architectural work that surrounds the plaza Bolivar or nearby deserves its own publication.
In one of the avenues is the old headquarters of the hotel Jardin and later was the old headquarters of the governor, is a huge building recently restored, I think it has only one level, but its extension is so wide that covers from one corner to another avenue of the square, they painted it white and old pink, its walls are made of a block with holes that makes it very striking and allows the air to circulate, today it is the headquarters of telearagua a regional television channel, this building is connected with its internal gardens with the headquarters of the legislative council of Aragua, and I know all those details because I worked in both institutions 😂☺️
Caminando en la misma dirección, llegando a una de las esquinas de la plaza, se ve la imponente torre Sindoni, que es el edificio más singular de la ciudad y símbolo representativo del estado, de hecho está en el logo de la comunidad de Hive Aragua. También merece que lo traiga a la comunidad. Esta torre está cerca de la plaza, a una cuadra de distancia. Cada obra arquitectónica que rodea la plaza Bolívar o cerca merece su propia publicación.
En una de las avenidas está la antigua sede del hotel Jardín y después fue la antigua sede la gobernación, es un edificio enorme recientemente restaurado, creo que tiene solo un nivel, pero su extensión es tan amplia que cubre de una esquina a otra una avenida de la plaza, lo pintaron de color blanco y rosa vieja, sus paredes están hechas de un bloque con huecos que lo hace muy llamativo y le permite que el aire circule, hoy en día es la sede de telearagua un canal de televisión regional, este edificio se conecta con sus jardines internos con la sede del consejo legislativo de Aragua, y sé todos esos detalles porque trabajé en ambas instituciones 😂☺️
And now yes, view of Plaza Bolivar with the Christmas decorations, but not appreciated in all its beauty, because at night is that the lights do the magic. I have not had the pleasure of seeing this plaza at night with its Christmas decorations, but this year 2024 I will see it, God willing. There were figures of hearts, animals, throughout the center is the equestrian statue of Simon Bolivar in bronze, which is a replica of the statue of Bolivar Square in Caracas, with a rectangular marble base and porcelain sheets around it, another element that stands out in the decoration of this square are its lanterns which is another sculpture with figures of lions at its base and above some birds, which resembles an eagle I'm not sure.
Y ahora sí, vista de la plaza Bolívar con los adornos navideños, pero que no se aprecian en toda su belleza, porque de noche es que las luces hacen la magia. No he tenido el placer de ver esta plaza de noche con sus decoraciones navideñas, pero este año 2024 sí lo veré, Dios mediante. Había figuras de corazones, animales, en todo el centro está la estatura ecuestre de Simón Bolívar de bronce, la cual es una réplica de la estatua de la plaza Bolívar de Caracas, con una base rectangular de mármol y láminas de porcelanato a su alrededor, otra elemento que destaca en la decoración de esta plaza son sus faroles que es otra escultura con figuras de leones en su base y arriba unas aves, que asemeja a un águila no estoy segura.
In the very center of the square you can appreciate the Sindoni tower with a beauty in its symmetry, on the other hand, there are two roundabout, that before making this publication I did not know their name, since I was a child I saw them and I did not understand what they were, they seemed nice, but without any sense, they were always full of couples in love that could be seen sitting on the floor or on its walls, kissing, I came to think that they were made for that, for love 🤣. Until I read about the history of the plaza, they are as old as it is.
En el mismo centro de la plaza se puede apreciar la torre Sindoni con una belleza en su simetría, por otro lado, se encuentran dos glorietas, que antes de hacer esta publicación desconocía su nombre, desde pequeña las veía y no entendía lo que eran, me parecían bonito, pero sin ningún sentido, siempre estaban llenas de parejas enamoradas que se podían ver sentados en el piso o en sus muros, besándose, llegue a pensar que eran hechas para eso, para el amor 🤣. Hasta que leí sobre la historia de la plaza, son tan antiguas como ella.
The gazebos or monopteros are built of pink granite, they are octagonal and have 24 perimeter columns and 8 internal columns, they are really beautiful, they have been restored for maintenance preserving its structure, taking pictures was a challenge, I wanted to see all of it and from the front it came out crooked and my insistence was so much that the people who were there got up and left, 😂😁 so I lay down on the floor and took pictures of the ceiling, I even relaxed for a while looking at so much perfection and that's why I thought what is the true value of this work? , it turns out that the gazebos have acoustics and were made for musicians to perform inside them. 😲😱 It must have been a great show back in the days when the gazebos were put to their proper use.
Las glorietas o monópteros están construidas de granito rosado, son octogonales y tiene 24 columnas perimetrales y 8 internas, son realmente hermosas, las han restaurado por mantenimiento conservando su estructura, tomarle fotos, fue un desafío, quería que se viera toda y de frente me salía torcida y mi insistencia fue tanta que las personas que estaban allí se levantaron y se fueron, 😂😁 así que me acosté en el piso y le tome fotos al techo, hasta me relaje un rato mirando tanta perfección y por eso pensé ¿cuál es el verdadero valor de esta obra?, resulta que las glorietas tienen acústica y fueron hechas para que los músicos realizarán sus presentaciones dentro de ellas. 😲😱 Debió ser un gran espectáculo en la época en que se le daba el uso correcto a las glorietas.
Continuing the tour towards Bolivar Avenue, across the street is the army technical officers school that looks like a small white and lead gray castle; in the past it was white and military green. You can see in the upper part wooden windows that look like doors, with a small balcony of chaguaramos, there are the rooms of the students who are in condition of interns and below there is a beautiful circle like a light swallower.
Siguiendo el recorrido hacia la avenida Bolívar, enfrente está la escuela de oficiales técnicos del ejército que parece un pequeño castillo de color blanco y gris plomo; en el pasado era de color blanco y verde militar. Se pueden ver en la parte superior ventanas de madera que parecen puertas, con un pequeño balcón de chaguaramos, allí están las habitaciones de los estudiantes que están en condición de internos y debajo hay un hermoso círculo como un traga luz.
In another corner of the square we found the Maracay opera house, which was remodeled a few years ago, where I could see that they made ramps for wheelchairs, assuming the inclusion from the architecture of the city. To one side of the theater and one of the sides of the square is the old urban ambulatory Doc. Efrain Abad Armas and is currently the administrative headquarters of the civil hospital, when I passed by there was the guard who I asked permission to take pictures of the front and gave me the information, the gentleman kindly told me I could go another day and talk to the administrator and review the whole place.
En otra esquina de la plaza encontramos el teatro de la ópera de Maracay, que fue remodelado hace unos pocos años, donde pude observar que hicieron rampas para sillas de ruedas, asumiendo la inclusión desde la arquitectura de la ciudad. A un costado del teatro y por uno de los laterales de la plaza está el antiguo ambulatorio urbano Doc. Efrain Abad Armas y que actualmente es la sede administrativa del hospital civil, cuando pase por allí estaba el vigilante a quien pedí permiso de tomar fotos del frente y me dio la información, el señor amablemente me dijo que podía ir otro día y hablar con la administradora y revisar todo el lugar.
As I said at the beginning every construction around Bolivar square deserves a unique publication, this square this year is 94 years old because it was inaugurated on December 19, 1930, the year my grandmother was born 😆, it is 320 meters long and 106 meters wide, it has 5 internal fountains and in front of the officers school it has about 20 that at one time were seen with colored lights, currently I don't know are in operation.
The Bolivar Square of Maracay was created by the architect Carlos Raul Villanueva, who was inspired by the gardens of the Palace of Versailles in Paris and for that reason has a vegetation of large trees and ornamental plants, the construction of Ernesto Leon and was declared a national historic monument on April 15, 1994. There are many reasons to visit this square. Sitting on its benches will give you a pleasant moment, it is an obligatory visit for Venezuelans and the invitation is open to tourists who decide to visit Venezuela.
Como dije al principio cada construcción alrededor de la plaza Bolívar merece una publicación única, esta plaza este año cumple 94 años porque fue inaugurada el 19 de diciembre de 1930, el año en que nació mi abuela 😆, mide 320 metros de largo y 106 de ancho, tiene 5 fuentes internas y al frente de la escuela de oficiales tiene como 20 que en un tiempo se veían con luces de colores, actualmente no sé están en funcionamiento.
La plaza Bolívar de Maracay fue creada por el arquitecto Carlos Raúl Villanueva, que se inspiró en los jardines del Palacio de Versalles de París y por esa razón cuenta con una vegetación de grandes árboles y plantas ornamentales, la construcción de Ernesto León y fue declarada monumento histórico nacional el 15 de abril de 1994. Son muchas las razones para conocer esa plaza. Sentarse en sus bancos te dará un momento placentero, es una visita obligatoria para los venezolanos y la invitación queda abierta para los turistas que decidan conocer a Venezuela.
