It's easy to forget how beautiful the places are we live in. Having traveled to a lot of different places I know how the Netherlands must look from a stranger's perspective - all cute and cosy with red brick houses and orange roof tiles and canals and and and...
My city unfortunately got bombed during WWII so all the 'cute' stuff has been burned down. Still, there's a small part of the city that still has that old cute Dutch vibe - ironically this is also the part that used to belong to another city. We just claimed it as ours once it got surrounded by other neighbourhoods that were built.
Anyway, I noticed the sun lighting these gorgeous buildings and the tree framing them while on my way home from a horrible class that I wanted to recover from asap - with a lot of food that was being cooked for me at that moment too.
My mind therefor was totally unreceptive to beautiful pictures, let alone getting off my bike and grabbing my phone to take a shot. Still, this image registered on my photographer part of the brain immediately, and before I even made a conscious decision I had already put my bike on the stoop and was framing the shot.
It's not perfect, I dislike the branch on the right side quite a bit, and maybe my hungry belly made me compose this shot in more haste than I wanted, but I'm still glad I took the effort.
Yes, Steem makes me shoot more pictures than I would take otherwise :-)
