What I Learned 10 Days Into Steemit: A Beginner's Guide

January 19th, this account was approved. I posted my introductory post the next day. Today, in my 10th day in this platform, I've learned a lot - and there's still a lot to learn!

If you are a newbie (or a minnow as they call it here), this might be helpful for you, too. Although I am not an expert, nor did I already earned a lot, but I definitely have a lot to share in this 10-day journey!

This will not be an extensive tutorial on how to get through this platform as a lot of tutorials, guides, and other information may be found on other articles on this site. In this post, we'll just be talking about 3 things:
• Setting Up Your Profile
• Content Creation
• Rewards Earning

Setup Your Profile

Setting up your Steemit profile is different from any social media. In fact, I struggled at first when I was trying to put a profile picture, which was actually pretty simple! If you have a private profile picture on social media, the link to your photo will probably not work. So, make sure you have set your photo to public before linking it to Steemit!

Also, your bio is as important as your introductory post. It gives people an insight of who you are, and/or what content you are sharing. My bio contains my personality, my major, and a statement saying that I'm a night owl.

Quality Content Creation

By now, you may be scrolling through trending or hot and looking for interesting accounts to follow. That's what I exactly did on my first day here. I was trying to see what type of content the Steemit Community (or Steemians) would like to see, what post earns more, etc. Most of the time, I've been seeing similar accounts on trending - usually people with higher reputation (that number in a parenthesis next to your username). So, my next goal is to build reputation.

Reading a lot of articles teaching minnows, I've learned that it all narrows down to your content. Sharing good quality content gets you upvoted which increases your reputation!

If you do not have quality content to share, you probably will receive a little to no upvotes from the crowd. It doesn't matter if it's not earning in a few weeks. In time, all your quality content will matter.

Don't forget to add photos!

Earning Rewards

After posting your introductory post, you may be taking a close look on the dollars it receives. And most likely, it's disappointing (I got less than 10 cents on my introductory post and less than a dollar of pending payout). But there are actually a lot of simple ways to earn on this platform aside from receiving upvotes from posts and comments!

Curate

This is simply upvoting quality content posted in 30 minutes or less. If that post gains a good amount after 7 days, you'll get curation rewards!

Engage

Comment. Comment. Comment. Exposure is key. Comment on posts and talk to the community. They are all very good people! The more you engage, the more likely your profile gets checked and upvoted.

Connect

This one is quite advanced. Connect your Steemit account to different platforms that also lets you earn more STEEM, or SBD. Most of my friends are on Utopian.io and DTube

My first 10 days on Steemit may not be as what I was expecting. But it doesn't stop me from sharing good content to the community! Also, it's okay to ask for help from your friends or colleagues who are also in this platform. Tinabangay lang gyud! Again, everyone here are very good people!
