Hey Gamers and Game Lovers,

Welcome to my game blog, where I talk about games, my experience playing them, and anything game-related.

A couple of weeks back I wrote about how I started playing poker and learning as well. I’ve always known the game existed, I’ve seen it in movies and heard people talk about high-stakes matches, but I never really paid attention to the rules or how it’s played. That changed when I decided to learn and get a feel of what it feels like to play poker.

I started with friendly online games, mostly to get comfortable with the flow—dealing, betting, folding, and of course, figuring out how all the different hands stack up against each other, even downloaded a poker for dummies book that I am currently reading, that's how obsessed I can get when interested.

At first, it felt overwhelming. There’s a lot to remember: which cards rank higher, how combinations like straights and flushes work, and the little strategies that come into play. But the more I played, the more it started to click. It all started to come together after losing a shit load of chips on the poker game app, Zygna. I can say I have lost over $2 billion in chips. Thankfully they are all free.

One of the things I find fascinating about poker is that it is not all about luck. Although, the cards matter, it’s also about timing, reading the table, and making the right decisions in the moment. Sometimes folding is the smartest move, and this I had to learn the hard way, other times it’s about having the courage to stay in the hand and see what happens, I'm still working on this one. That balance between risk and reward is what makes the game so addictive, now I get it.

Today, I played a quick session during my lunch break. Just thirty minutes between work tasks, and it turned into the funniest thing in my day. The table was lively, the stakes were just high enough to make things exciting, and for a while, I felt like I was holding my own. At one point, I thought I had a flush, that is all cards of the same suit but it was only four cards. I was sincerely hoping the river because a 4 of diamonds or anything with diamonds. But when I saw a spade, I knew my hand had gone. The worst part I went all in with my chips. When the cards were revealed I didn't have it so I lost faster than the 30 minutes I hoped to play for. That's the funny part and I didn't even win a hand.

It's fun to play at it keeps me attracted to work when I need it.
