Welcome to my blog, where I talk about the games I play, my experience while playing them, and anything game-related.
Without every Hivechess tournament having come to an end, I decided to play Lichess' hourly blitz arena. It was a tough one for me and an even tougher one since I decided to use a mouse. I am not fast when playing on my PC, but I had to tell myself that I can only get better when I play more and more games. The event is to gather as many points as possible; sadly, I could only gain 7 points from the list of games I played.
I won 3 games out of the 7 games played. Not decent, but I can say officially, I am slow with the mouse. I have to play more often with it.
This is one interesting endgame I encountered. It was interesting because of the placement of the rook and how I made a simple move, at least that is what it looked like to me, but it was a huge blunder that caused me to lose the game. Instead of going for the computer-recommended Kd5, I played the move Kc5, and that is a blunder because it allows the black king to come into the position with ease, and then the rook will come in next to create a combination with the king. Just like that, it was a loss for me on sight. One move blunder is all it took.

Here is another game, but this time I was fortunate to grab an early piece, which I kept the advantage on down to the end. At this point in the highlighted position, I felt the game was a bit tricky. I thought my opponent's black king might get some entrance into the position once it decides to go ahead with king moves when I go for the h6 pawn. So what I did in the game was to clear the pawns on the queenside since I know my king is more active on the kingside. That is exactly what happened, and I was patient enough to think about it clearly before making my next move at this point. I have been a victim of a position like this, where I feel I am all good since I have the extra piece, but poor play from my end could cost me the game through a draw or even worse, a loss.
Chess can be a trickster. You can watch the game here:

For the rest of the tournament, not so good, but I will play more.
