It's been a strange year. It's been a hell of a journey with a lot of ups and downs, some excitement, new opportunities and a few roadblocks. Even though this year has not gone anywhere near the way that I thought that it would, based on the start, I find myself looking at the future with the greatest optimism that I ever have for the future of my life. Aside from some road blocks, I'm optimistic for the future of this world.
Humanity seems to be at a bit of a crossroads in a lot of ways. As we face a global pandemic and what seems to be a wave of misinformation and complete polarization of ideologies, identities, social constructs, facial coverings, the validity of science and the list goes on and on and on and on. This year has been anything but boring. In a lot of ways, I have seen the best of humanity along with the worst. I have seen people reach out to others and build communities, while, some seem to be more content to break communities apart.
I have no agenda and sharing my thoughts. In fact, I'd rather not, in a lot of ways. The world that we're living in today seems to be content to rip people to shreds for sharing their ideas. Thoughts within people's heads that becomes something in the world have become a thing to be judged by the masses and by prescribed narratives that are nearly demands of new social norms within the moment that they are realized by those that would seek them. My reasons for sharing my thoughts are not that I feel that I have better answers than anyone or that I'm better than anyone; I'm sharing my thoughts right now because I believe in the free expression of ideas.
That free expression of ideas is the foundation of personal freedoms, the pursuit of opportunities, the ability of individuals to govern themselves within the framework of a free society and the most crucial ingredient of innovation, whether it be technologically or sociologically.
We are living in strange times where many are having a hard time seeing the opportunity in a changing world. We are seeing a world being shaped by our very decision making processes. Our consumer habits are shaping the entire world as I write this . Although many people are without work at this time, more opportunities are being created by the minute and by the week because of the way that the world is changing. Does this mean that everybody will be okay? I can't say that for sure. What I do know, is that there is always a place within a society for people to earn their keep if they're willing to put forth effort. Navigating the social situations of this pandemic and of the world that is being shaped by it maybe a little bit tricky at times. For that reason, I think it's important to remember that if we use the same brain as we used yesterday for the world of today, we will likely be building a life of frustration for ourselves.
You may be struggling in big ways right now and read this, thinking that I have no clue about what's going on in the world. That may even be true to a certain extent, because I can only speak from my own experience and the reality that I live in which shapes my world and my decisions. I think that is an important thing to realize for anyone who would criticize the way that others are facing their current situations. With such a disconnected network of reliable information through viable and reliable news outlets, people's opinions have become skewed to the actual reality and facts of the world that we live in.
What is the point of all this? Why am I writing this? Because I feel that it is through the perspective of others that we find ways to endure, to grow, to become more understanding and to become stronger so that we can reshape our realities in our own images. Regardless of what is going on in the world, or what narrative may be pushed on the majority for them to believe, I believe that there is one thing that we can do that will help us to thrive rather than just survive.
That thing is to educate ourselves on who we are as people and to become experts in understanding and being empathetic with others well learning to embrace a situation that will eventually come to an end and to remind ourselves daily that this too shall pass.
The sun will rise tomorrow and the waves of the ocean will crash upon the shore. This world is not forever, but it will go on forevermore. Since energy cannot be created or destroyed, even Earth's ultimate destruction will create another door for life to life forevermore.
