A large shopping mall | UNICENTRO Medellin

Greetings friends of Hive and the Architecture+Design community, I hope you are very well. I am happy because I found some free time at work that has kept me very busy lately and I have come to show you a very well known and visited shopping center here in Medellin, Colombia. It is the Ciudadela Comercial Unicentro, which is very important throughout the country because it is a chain of shopping centers that is in several Colombian cities and well I am going to show you the one in Medellin in the neighborhood Los Conquistadores, on the sides of Avenida Bolivariana.

Any day of the year is worth a visit and more in December because in this month the atmosphere and Christmas decorations are very nice but for now I will show you a part of their decorations because I will reserve the rest for a future publication and in this publication the first thing I want to show you is the mall in general and also tell you that it works as a protector of the environment.

Saludos amigos de Hive y de la comunidad Architecture+Design, deseo que estén muy bien. Me siento contento porque encontré un tiempo libre en el trabajo que me tiene muy ocupado últimamente y he venido a mostrarles un centro comercial muy conocido y visitado aquí en Medellín, Colombia. Es la Ciudadela Comercial Unicentro, que tiene mucha importancia en todo el país porque es una cadena de centros comerciales que está en varias ciudades colombianas y bueno les voy a mostrar el que está en Medellín en el barrio Los Conquistadores, por los lados de la Avenida Bolivariana.

Cualquier día del año vale la pena visitarlo y más en diciembre porque en este mes el ambiente y la decoración navideña es muy bonita pero por ahora les mostraré una parte de sus adornos porque reservaré el resto para una próxima publicación y en esta publicación lo primero que quiero es enseñarles el centro comercial de manera general y también decirles que funciona como protector del medio ambiente.

If you visit Unicentro you realize how big it is, so it is best to visit it without haste to know what this impressive and ecological building has to offer. Doing some research I found out that it is 32 years old and regardless of its age it is still an important commercial reference. The Colombian architect responsible for this work is also responsible for all the Unicentro that exist in Colombia, his name is Pedro Gomez Barrero and this year 2023 died in February at age 94, although he lived long enough is regrettable the death of a person with a very long career in the construction of shopping centers in Colombia and Unicentro is its standard.

Si visitas Unicentro te das cuenta de lo grande que es, entonces lo mejor es visitarlo sin apuros para conocer lo que ofrece este impactante y ecológico edificio. Investigando un poco conocí que tiene 32 años y sin importar sus edad sigue siendo una referencia comercial importante. El arquitecto colombiano responsable de esta obra es también responsable de todos los Unicentro que existen en Colombia, su nombre es Pedro Gómez Barrero y este año 2023 murió en febrero a sus 94 años, aunque vivió bastante es lamentable la muerte de una persona con una trayectoria muy amplia en la construcción de centros comerciales en Colombia y Unicentro es su estandarte.

In the main façade there is a fountain that can be seen as a stone wall, that is a work called Entreaguas built by the Colombian plastic artist and architect Hugo Zapata, so far I have seen it turned off but I still took the picture so you can see a part of it. I find it fascinating because of its length, the sad thing is that it is not working these days.

En la fachada principal está una fuente se puede ver como una pared de piedra, esa es una obra llamada Entreaguas construida por el artista plástico y arquitecto colombiano Hugo Zapata hasta ahora la he visto apagada pero igual tomé la foto para que vean una parte. A mi me parece fascinante por la longitud, lo triste es que no está funcionando en estos días.

This shopping mall in Medellin has three very spacious floors with different areas for stores, offices, food, games and recreation. This Unicentro really has a good structure with a good distribution, I like that.

Este centro comercial en Medellín tiene tres plantas muy amplias con distintas áreas para tiendas, oficinas, comida, juegos y recreación. Realmente este Unicentro tiene una buena estructura con una buena distribución, eso me gusta.

In such a large building the stairs have to be everywhere and in optimal conditions, besides we are in Unicentro where customers find everything in one place, well something like that says the slogan so there is ease of movement to all areas, with stairs and ramps for people with reduced mobility.

En una construcción tan grande las escaleras tienen que estar por todas partes y en condiciones optimas, además estamos en Unicentro donde los clientes encuentran todo en un solo lugar, bueno algo así dice el lema entonces hay facilidad para desplazarse a todas las áreas, con escaleras y rampas para las personas con movilidad reducida.

In the aisles there are cubicles that are small sales points with a wide variety of products ranging from handicrafts to technology services.

En los pasillos hay cubículos que son puntos pequeños de ventas con una amplia variedad de productos desde artesanales hasta servicios de tecnología.

There are also vehicle exhibits in the aisles of Unicentro.

También hay en los pasillos de Unicentro exhibiciones de vehículos.

There is a lot of lighting, one of the things I like in the planning of any structure is to have a lot of light in all the spaces.

Hay mucha iluminación, una de las cosas que me gusta en la planificación de cualquier estructura es que tenga mucha luz en todos los espacios.

Speaking of light, since November the mall has been decorated with Christmas decorations as you can see with lights that look like waterfalls falling from the ceiling.

Hablando de luz, desde el mes de noviembre el centro comercial esta decorado con adornos de navidad como pueden ver con luces que parecen cascadas que caen desde el techo.

Hablando de cultura ecológica hay que colocar los desechos aprovechables y no aprovechables en los contenedores adecuados.

I am struck by the seats in the places, we can see them in different designs and very comfortable.

Me llama la atención los asientos en los lugares, los podemos ver es diferentes diseños y muy cómodos.

In Medellin's Unicentro there is a lot to see, especially at Christmas and in another post I will show you the atmosphere and Christmas decorations that are worth it because they have been prepared in style and I say goodbye for now showing one of the ads about the Christmas show that is free every day until January 8.

En Unicentro de Medellín hay mucho que ver, sobre todo en navidad y en otra publicación les mostraré el ambiente y la decoración de navidad que vale la pena porque se ha preparado por todo lo alto y me despido por ahora mostrando uno de los avisos sobre el show de navidad que se hace gratis todos los días hasta el 8 de enero.
