By refusing to develop its shale gas resources, Europe did not do anything to prevent climate change. The need for gas didn't change, the amount of gas being burned and heating the planet did not decrease. It just had to be bought from somewhere else (often Russia). By refusing to develop its shale gas resources, Europe just chose to be poorer, and to have less strategic autonomy.
