Certain basic standard of living, when guaranteed, produces multifold benefits to society at large. State subsidised education allows for a pool of skilled workforce for employers to recruit. Public water and sewage facilities allows for healthier population, who can work and produce more. UBI ensures for proper nutrition, clothing, and housing, in order that those who have thus far been outside the sysyem can rejoin society and become productive.
The height of prosperity in ancient Rome occurred after massive state subsidies for grain, allowing for increased consumption of luxuries and consequent expansion of the Roman economy. Similar economic prosperity can be easily observed in ancient China, Sumeria, Persia, and the Incan empire. Contrary to the modern religion of money, humanity prospered under various socioeconomic systems other than greed-driven capitalism or idiot-managed Marxism.
