Hello to all creators and lovers of great music on Hive, and especially to the wonderful #Music community! It is a real pleasure to greet you once again.

Today I felt like remembering the great Tío Simón Díaz. The truth is that Tío Simón's songs were the ones that made our llanera music known all over the world. For me, the song "Caballo Viejo" is the clearest example of how far a song can go when it's made from the heart.

A memory comes to mind from when I was very small, back in the 90s (around 1992, which is when I have clearer memories). In those days, I think almost all Venezuelans eagerly looked forward to Saturdays to watch the number one show in Latin America as a family: Sábado Sensacional on Venevisión. It was such a huge thrill to sit in front of the TV and watch those incredible shows, where they brought musicians and artists from so many countries. (By the way, that’s exactly what I’ll be writing about in my next post, remembering what that great television era was like).

Anyway, as I was telling you, seeing master Simón Díaz on those stages was something truly grand. Tío Simón wasn't just a singer from our countryside; he became an international artist respected everywhere. In a time when harp, cuatro, and maracas music was mainly heard in small towns, he managed to get it played on radio stations in other countries, covered by famous artists in different languages, and made half the planet fall in love with the sound of the Venezuelan plains.

Thanks to Tío Simón, "Caballo Viejo" became an anthem. Every time I hear that melody, I feel a nice, warm nostalgia for my childhood and, at the same time, immense pride in being Venezuelan and seeing how our folklore crossed every border.

Did you also watch Sábado Sensacional with your family on weekends? What memory comes to your mind when you hear Tío Simón's songs?

A big hug to everyone, thank you for taking the time to read, comment, and leave your constant support. Have a great week!
