[ESP/ENG] La paz mental de aprender a decir "no" sin pena ni culpa / The peace of mind of learning to say "no" without embarrassment or guilt
Hello to everyone in the Lifestyle community and all the great people on Hive! Today I want to share a short reflection on a topic that is hard for many of us, but transforms our lives once we get it: protecting our peace of mind.
The other day I was walking through the center of my town, Villa de Cura, especially around the Aragüita sector, near Plaza Ayacucho. I was passing by, stopped for a moment to think while watching people move around, and it came to my mind how something as simple as setting boundaries complicates our lives.
I kept thinking about how things change depending on which side of the table we are on. When we need to ask for a favor, most of the time the other person simply says they can't, and they say it calmly, without embarrassment or beating around the bush. They understand that if it's not possible, it's not possible, and they don't stress over it.
However, the exact opposite happens to many of us when someone asks us for something. We find it extremely hard to refuse out of fear of looking bad or caring too much about what others think. We get so used to pleasing everyone that we end up overwhelmed with stress, fatigue, and extra tasks, all at the expense of our own well-being.
I realized that every time I said yes while wanting to say no, I was letting myself down. Agreeing to everything takes a heavy toll: it steals our sleep and leaves us exhausted to care for our family and health. Saying "no" with kindness doesn't make you selfish; it simply shows that you respect your time and space.
Peace of mind begins the day you learn to set boundaries without feeling guilty. Those who truly appreciate you will understand your position without getting upset. Protecting your daily tranquility is your responsibility, so don't let obligation steal the rest time you have earned.
