It started when the tree flowered in Feburary, it has a tendency to flower before the frost is over for the year. Well sure enough a week or two later after bloom we got another freeze. And with that, killed 95% of the flowers.
Though it would seem some stayed around, but with how few there were the flies went for it and made homes in every single one.. so we dont be eating any of then this year :(
Though I hope in the next year I'll get a bunch. I've had them before and not always do they freeze, it's just all about the right timing of the seasons..which I have zero control over.. hah
With them rotting I'm going to knock them off and prune the tree back.. keeping it bowl shaped is the best way to get the fruit to stay bug and mold free. As it lets more light and air inside the structures.
Well the fruit flies can have them, I also saw a squirrel going after them as well.. when there is only a dozen of them on the tree they rarely make it to harvest.
