Definition

A word is the minimum linguistic unit, independent and free, that has signifier and meaning. It can be composed of a single monema or more than one.

What is a monema?

The minimum morphological unit, that is, the one that can not be divided into a smaller one, is the moneme. Thus, examples of monemes, words such as tree and Barcelona.

Some words consist of more than one word, for example, San Francisco. Also some monemas can have more than one word, for example, firewall (short + fire + s).
