It is normal to procrastinate. Even the most successful people does that every now and then. Sometimes procrastination is harmless. Take for example the laundry. No one likes to do laundry, and until you start to wear clothes that start to get a little smelly again, you will remain an active member of society if you leave the laundry for a few hours at a time. (or days).

To do some research on why do people procrastinate, I procrastinated the writing of this article until I got closer to the deadline (to my editors: ah, just kidding. Please keep me among the staff). And you know what? Even if I delay a little (again, totally for research purposes), it is still being done.

Here are nine reasons other than article research why you might find yourself procrastinating:

1. You want to control everything.

If you put things back, they can't fool you! Right? Unfortunately, you cannot put things off forever. By procrastinating, you keep control over the task you are working on. However, it also obviously means that this particular task is not being accomplished.

2. You see a task as a big project.

Honestly, almost everything we do can be broken down into small manageable parts.

Take, for example, the laundry that I mentioned above. If laundry seems like a daunting task, break it down into steps.

Pick up all your dirty clothes. Separate colors and whites. Put your clothes on a wash cycle. Put them in the dryer. Fold them.

Laundry is a basic example, but this can apply to several situations. By breaking things down into parts, you will find the task much more achievable.

3. You are a perfectionist.

Sometimes being a perfectionist works in your favor. However, it can be tempting to delay or delay certain tasks simply because you are concerned that the result may not be perfect.

Remember, it doesn't matter if things don't go exactly as you had in mind. Also, a completed task, even an imperfect one, is better than an incomplete task.

4. You fear to fail.

It can be tempting to postpone tasks for fear of failing. Of course, you can't fail something when you don't do it at all.

Unfortunately, this is an unproductive way of thinking. Coping with your fear of failure will eventually help you overcome or learn to manage that fear.

So the next time you think about postponing something just to avoid a possible failure, take it upfront. You will grow as an experienced person.

5. You don't have a lot of self-control.

There are certainly varying levels of self-control. Everyone is different. However, there is a time when your self-control can hamper your productivity.

Procrastination is easier for people who naturally do not have the discipline to perform tasks in a quick and organized manner.

6. You don't make lists.

Procrastination can occur as a result of something falling between the cracks. If you submit something and forget to write that you need to do it later, you may be able to completely forget the first task.

If you are forgetful, make a list of all your tasks and do not cross it out until they are 100% complete.

7. You underestimate time commitments.

It can be discouraging to see a project last two weeks when you thought it would take one.

If you consistently estimate time commitments incorrectly, you may risk procrastinating more than you would otherwise.

It is tempting to put things off until you think you have the time, but realizing that you do not have as much as you think can cause serious difficulties in getting things done. The advertisement

8. You (barely) understood.

Procrastinating a task doesn't always mean worse work. Some people work very well under pressure and can do a very good job, while others are just lucky.

Ultimately, there will come a time when procrastination is not going so well. Pay attention to the quality of your work and make sure that your last-minute rush does not show up.

9. You are lazy.

This is the number one reason why most of us procrastinate. We just don't want to do what we put back. Being lazy doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

It is perfectly acceptable that you sometimes stay around and watch TV rather than mowing the lawn. Do not let this behavior become habitual.

So those are the 9 most common reasons why people procrastinate. If you can relate to one of these reasons, it is time to act and overcome procrastination.
