TAUTOLOGY
firstly i will like to give a definatoin of Tautology
Definatoin: The saying of the same thing twice over in different words, generally considered to be a fault of style (e.g. they arrived one after the other in succession. It is also as an unnecessary repetition that makes speech boring.
*Few in Number/ Few
Don't say: The lecturers in the hall are few in number
Say: The lecturers in the class are few
Ask me why? Few indicates number that are not many.
*Doctorate Degree / Doctorate
Don't say: Mr. Soft has a doctorate degree in Theology
Say: Mr. Soft has a doctoral degree in Theology
Ask me why? A doctorate is a university degree. It's like saying old adage.
*Heavy Down Pour/ down pour
Don't say: There was a heavy down pour last night
Say: There was a down pour last night
Ask me why? Down pour means heavy rainfall.
*Night vigil /vigil of all night
Don't say:i am going to a night vigil
Say: I am going to a vigil of all night prayer
Ask me why? A vigil is a way of keeping awake especially at night.
*Secret ballot / Ballot
Don't say: The election is going to be a secret ballot system
Say:The election is going to be a ballot system
Ask me why: Ballot means voting in secret
*Short knixker/ shorts or knicker
Don't say: kindly being me my short knicker
Say: kindly bring me my short or my knicker
Ask me why? Knicker are not long meanwhile short and knicker means the same thing
*single one / one or single
Don't say: They stole all the gold without leaving a single one
Say: They stole all the gold without leaving a single
Ask me why? Single means one.
*Return back / Return
Don't say: soft boy will return back from school tomorrow
Say: soft boy will return or be back
Ask me why? Return means to go back to a particular place.
*Visible to the eyes/ Visible
Don't say: The object is visible to the eyes
Say: The object is visible
Ask me why? Anything visible is what you can see with your eyes.
*Electrocuted to death /Electrocuted
Don't say: The man was electrocuted to death last December
Say: The man was electrocute last December
Ask me why? Electrocute mostly leads to death or serious injury.
