In the previous part of my travel notes from the long-distance European route E3, I reached the border of the Snieznik nature park. In today's work, we will look more into this area and thus end our journey through the western part of Poland.
By the ninth day of my trip, I woke up a little earlier than usual, because I had planned to get to the station in the Czech Republic as early as possible to get to Prague in a reasonable way. So I set off as soon as I could see a little, which also helped the atmosphere of the foggy forest.
The route was surprisingly very pleasant considering that I was climbing to the highest point of the whole trip.
During the ascent, I got outside the forest for a while. Or rather a new forest that has not yet grown up.
At the border of 1200 meters above sea level, I entered the high forest again. And at the same time to the Snieznik Klodzki National Reserve, where the protected wilderness has just begun. There was still snow in places, but fortunately not enough to make it difficult for me to walk in my running shoes.
A zároveň do Národní rezervace Snieznik Klodzki, kde začala teprve ta chráněná divočina.
In the vicinity of the Schronisko PTTK hut "Na Śnieżniku" there are meadows overgrown with blueberries and young spruces. The place was deserted because it was only 7 o'clock in the morning, so I could enjoy the silence that reigned here.
Next, the journey continued at about the same altitude for a few kilometers before it began to descend, and by this time I had run out of the last battery in my DSLR.
Dále cesta pokračovala v přibližně stejné výšce několik kilometrů než začala klesat a tou dobou mi došla poslední baterie v mojí zrcadlovce.
This place somehow changed my concept of time and it seemed to me that I was walking for a very long time and at the same time the distance was not decreasing. Only above the village of Jodlów did I again decide to take some photos on my phone.
In the village of Szklarnia, the service in the local church had just ended and people were going home. An old man started communicating with me and asked where I was coming from. When I told him that I started at the border of the Jizera Mountains. He timed exactly how long it took me, which surprised me, but on the other hand, he probably walked all his life, because this area is not exactly rich.
As the man delayed me a bit, I had to pick up my pace to catch the train I had planned. So I ran through the city of Miedzylesie quite quickly. I just stopped for a moment at the local Žabka store. Where I was again delayed by another man who didn't know what kind of vodka to buy in order to probably survive the sermon in the church to which the whole town was moving at that time. So I had to put on a much faster pace and I slowed down only at the border between Poland and the Czech Republic to take a photo of a stork and a tourist signpost.
On the way to the station, I took a commemorative photo with a view of Sněžník among the meadows.
I arrived at the station with about 20 minutes to spare, so I had time to enjoy the historic train set of the Sněžník Express, and with that you could say I finished the trip along the E3 through the western part of Poland.
| Total distance traveled | Conquered peaks | Total altitude |
|---|---|---|
| 812,5 Km | 91 | 45001 meters |
In 9 days I walked 308.3 kilometers, visited a total of 46 hilltops (mountains) and overcame an elevation of 20550 meters. If I compare it with the part I walked in the Czech Republic, I reached similar numbers there for a distance of 200 km longer. So the western part of Poland is more challenging, but on the other hand I was lucky with the weather, which was kind to me all the time, except for a few rain showers. And what's next? Continuation after E3 in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, which I have never been to, so it will be a total premiere for me.
