Yes there are similarities between the two languages, many words are the same, what happens is that Portuguese has a more musical pronunciation I would say, so it can seem complicated. There is a word to name the mixture of languages, Brazilians who speak some Spanish or Spanish speakers who speak some Portuguese, speak "portuΓ±ol". In my case I have a very basic level but it worked for me during the trip, I learned it because in my house we had a Brazilian channel and I watched several programs there πŸ˜‚, so I became familiar with the language, and I also like Brazilian music, so it was not difficult for me to communicate, but anyway the people are very friendly and always try to help you if you don't understand something πŸ˜‰.
