Despite what the whole world was tell me last night. Oh it's supposed to rain, storm, there's tornado warnings, you can't go out in this, the fireworks will be canceled. Blah blah blah.
Followed my gut instinct (which was burning in my soul all day) and went out anyway, and guess what.. The fireworks still happened. Coming from the suburbs I left at 8:30, super late when the fireworks were scheduled to start at 9:30pm.
I made it with 10 minutes to spare. Parked undernethe Lakeshore Drive next to DuSable Harbor, where I never parked before, cause it looks kinda sketch. But I was in a hurry. But will probably park there again. (map below)
Grabbed my gear and rushed out along the N. Breakwater Access as far as I could go. There is a bright street lamp there but I thought as long as I set up at the base of it, it won't affect my photos.
Shot with my Nikon D810 with the 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED, my go to focal length when it comes to fireworks. Autofocused once then switched the camera to manual for the remainder of the shoot. I shot in BULB mode, which takes the picture for as long as you hold down the shutter button. I like BULB mode for the total control. And shot RAW, a must.
These were the first fireworks I shot with the newest 70-200 f2.8E FL ED. I never thought I'd say this but the photos are almost too sharp. >.< Dude, idk, don't ask. lol
The moment the fireworks ended, it started to pour. Success!
Will be catching this saurday's fireworks as well. If it doesn't... rain.
