Obviously this is one of the most exciting games out right now and one of the most exciting updates just came out for it actually! Crossplay between platforms is finally here with a few minor things to note about it.
Unfortunately this announcement can't be perfect, but anyone that has been following this inevitable update probably knows what I am about to mention. Yes, it is now possible for Xbox One and PC users to play with each other, it is also possible for PS4 users to play with PC users. Even if you didn't know before I'm sure you just realized what I omitted. Yes it will not be possible to play between Xbox One and PS4. Apparently it is Sony's fault, but fanboys on each side of the console wars are pointing fingers as usual, so who really knows!
Honestly as an Xbox player, I am going to turn this feature off right away probably, unless I'm playing with a friend that only has it on PC. PC users in shooter games have a routine advantage with a keyboard and mouse so I don't see the point in putting my team at a disadvantage by playing with PC players. Matchmaking is already quick enough since Fortnite is one of the biggest games right now so it really isn't a problem.
One of the great things to come out of this update is cross-progression though! I don't necessarily play on two platforms, but I know it has been a largely demanded feature since the launch of the game! Epic is doing just a fantastic job of giving the people what they want when it comes to Fortnite!
