Atom is from the Greek "atomos" meaning indivisible. However, this definition was proven wrong with the splitting of the atom. We now have the contradictory term "subatomic" due to the inaccurate base word and the incapability to change it. We have a different term in physics, quantum, from the Latin "quantus" meaning quantity. This refers to the newly discovered smallest particles. Will we one day have sub-quantum, due to a correction in our understanding of the world?
But also this shines light on how we are always correcting our understanding of the world. Will we ever know the complete truth? Who knows.
