This house was built 2 years before I was born, so it's an old home.
I fell in love with this house because of the old fashioned thick walls and high ceilings. But the winner was the saligna wooden floor. Before we had it done, the wood was a very dark brown from years of being polished with wax by the previous owner's wife. We knew what lay beneath, but once the buildup was removed, we still couldn't believe how beautiful the honey-colored floor really was.
In South Africa, saligna wood was readily available during those years, as it was made from eucalyptus trees, and there were plenty of them around. Only during the past few years were the trees removed as they are considered invasive aliens, and removing them restores the water flow. I love eucalyptus trees, and am sad that a lot of them have been destroyed, but I guess this is life.
There was a lot of dust to deal with afterwards, but it was so worth the effort
