A short back story, I first registered https://sn0n.com/ in 2002, had it forever.... Well, until around idk, 2016 I'll say.

sn0n.com expired and I was just done

...With technology. That has its own backstory, but Tldr; I'm addicted to technology and wanted to break away... Forever.

That clearly didn't work

So I came back to technology, and my domain expired.

I was devastated

I loved having my online alias namesake domain, it sucked not having my little playhouse sandbox on the internet. Ok, I still had public servers to use, and that's kinda what I prefer.. but it's nice to point sn0n.com at sn0n.github.io, etc... Same for subdomains.

time marches on

Great song btw, anyways.. it was time to move on, I decided to stay sn0n online cuz, whatevs. And I started @blokz / https://blokz.io/ and founded a startup... Ish... It's pretty stale but a work in progress.

I had forgotten about sn0n.com many times in the last few years, knowing that 4char domain names fetch upwards of $3,000. At least back then when I looked, haven't recently.

A couple months back on a whim I looked and saw that it had expired from the sniper and not renewed...

a glimmer of hope

I wasn't convinced I was in the clear however ... The domain service they used was known to run their own domain squatting service, drop catch or something alone those lines... But I figured I'd keep checking every week or so.. and for some reason it wasn't being picked up. I was convinced their service waited until the full 90 days was up and then picked it up before they had to release it back to the general population.

I couldn't have been more wrong

To my surprise, after weeks of being anxious and knowing deep in my sould their service was gonna snipe it, checking daily because I didn't know where abouts after 75+ days it would release... They didn't... And sn0n.com was just waiting to be registered.

Victory

Then I realized after having already embezzled like $120 from @hextech I didn't have monies!! I still don't, and have to pay back hextech 2ltc... But it's ok,.. I don't think they are gonna break my knees then put me to sleep with the fishies at the bottom of Lake Mead. I'll have to pay it back before a massive pump and those 2 LTC put me in barrel territory. Oh yeah back to sn0n.com,...

I was broke

So I did what everyone in my situation would have done...

I doubled down and embezzled more

Ok, I didn't do that,.... Worse,.. I asked my irl wife to let me dip into the savings with a Venmo of $20/ very quickly to register the domain because I knew the snipers were on the register page themselves about to snipe it back!!!

Final Victory

Funds secured, the domain was registered and immediately forwarded to sn0n on GitHub.. and I've already started working on it again. It definitely needs a full rewrite itself... but I've just been updating little bits of cringe.. LoL. Not much tho, it's still a very cringe sandbox.

but wait, there's more

I won't be focusing on my personal site much tbh, I mainly wanted it back for the email,... Now I can go back to using old services that I signed up for using my email. Ha!! Like I'll ever go back. But it's nice to know it's an option, the road not taken.
