Doug is a young, carefree man who will try anything at least once in his life. The more he is told that something is not safe or to hard the more he wants to test out the limits. He is very curious about the unknown as well. He is a dreamer who is always looking to the unknown trying to learn new things.
Doug is fascinated about space, being that very few people have ever gone into space. He is constantly looking up at the starts and wondering what is out there, and if he will be the one to find out. He is known by his friends to be a risk taker. Just the other day he went base jumping off the edge of the Grand Canyon. He enjoys the extreme rush he gets from the free fall, and the wind in his face.
Today, however, Doug is at school working on a project for class. One of Doug’s classmates, Ben, hands him a box. Doug asked, “What is this?”
Ben said, “I don’t know, I never opened it! The person who handed it to me said it was Pandora’s Box.”
Doug said, “This is awesome, I’m going to look up what I can on Pandora’s Box and then open it!”
Doug scrambled to the internet and started looking up information on Pandora’s Box. Doug and Ben began talking about what could be in the box. Ben said, “There is no way I’m going to open that box, seems like nothing good will come from it!”
Doug said, “You’re just a chicken, I will open it and see what happens then!” As Doug opened the box the mood in his classroom had changed from smaller groups that where excited and talking together to everyone watching what was going on between Ben, and Doug as he opened the box.
Doug said, “See there is nothing special about this box!” As he looked inside he saw a small object on the bottom inside the box and said, “I see something inside, I’m going to reach in and get it out!”
Just as Ben, and the rest of his class exclaimed, “NO!”
It was too late Doug had already put his hand inside the box. As he felt the bottom for the object he had seen he felt a sharp object prick his finger. “Ow!” he exclaimed. He pulled his hand out from the box and started to lick his finger hoping it would help with the pain. He looked up and realized he had no idea where he was at that moment.
Doug said, “Ben what happened?” There was no reply. He rubbed his eyes and started to look around at what he thought was his classroom. Nothing looked the same, in fact from what he could see, he could tell he was no longer inside the classroom.
Now, Doug was starting to get scared, nothing like this has ever happened to him before. He was confused and wondering what was going on. He had never been anywhere like this before. He stood up and realized he was not in the classroom, and no one was around anymore. He yelled, “IS ANYONE HERE?”
After a couple of seconds went by all he heard was the sound of his own echo. He waited a bit longer to and tried yelling a few more times. No response except his own echo. Doug, now, thoroughly confused as to what was going on started to walk around trying to see if he could find out what had happened to all of his classmates and the classroom that he had just been inside of.
