Civilization has changed many things today. Human life move in phases. We moved from ancient era to the current civilization.
We still haven't stopped growing since then. We are now in a more 'conducive' environment and different from the ancient era with no technology.
Things are now sophisticated and life is a bit easier from what it was in the past.
In the past, arrows were used as vital weapons to fight. Wars were mostly fought with swords and arrows.
It was a weapon that attack enemies from afar. If an arrow pierce through a heart, it is death. If it pierce through the stomach, chances of survival is slim.
This was the reality of man back then. Sometimes i feel grateful not to have been born during that era.
I can't imagine what life was like then and how people must have survived arrow wounds.
It was not like carrying swords or arrows were prohibited. They were considered weapons to have and carry for safety.
Life, if not properly guided by being ready with your own weapons of self defense, such can be snatched away within a blink of an eye.
Today, we have different weapons of mass destructions. What arrows would achieve in 10 years can be achieved on a single day today.
We have rules guiding weapons today. Some weapons are domesticated. Knife for instance, is seen as kitchen tool. If seen with anyone on the street, there must be answer to why one carries it else, it would be seen as real weapon and a threat to humanity.
So to have any reasonable weapon like gun, license must be issued (at least in Nigeria). If caught without a license, it is seen as a serious offence.
The offender would likely be jailed for having such weapon. If the weapon is traced to a killer, then more problem for the offender.
Bottom line is, world today has evolved and rational thoughts have been used to change human perspective about safety and importance of life.
I still prefer this civilization to any era back then because wars were their food. Today, diplomacy is what we use to avert unnecessary wars.
While the world cannot be said to be peaceful, we cannot deny the fact that we have sense of peace and always try to employ reason above feelings.
