Electricity is this part of the world is a 'scarce commodity'. A country with so much natural resources, yet lacking in so many ways.
Many states in Nigeria cannot boast of 12 hours electricity out of the 24 hours that makes up a day.
Amazingly, some people suffer this electricity more than the others. While those of us in some parts of Lagos state hardly get 8 hours light, some people have it for more than 12 hours.
This happens in same state in case you are wondering how. Funny enough, if we have it for more hours, let's say 18 hours, we are likely to have a surge which would destroy our transformer.
Many businesses rely so much on generator to do their businesses effectively in a country with so much yet nothing to show for us.
It explains why many companies left Nigeria because they buy so much fuel to stay in business and still pay high tax to the government who could not provide common basic amenities.
While we the citizens lament, the electricity providers are not left behind because they use generator too!
Irony right? Well, it is what it is. They tie generator with chains to their windows to process payment of electricity bills they couldn't provide and which they didn't have.
Sometimes this feels like a joke that a so called giant of Africa is only giant in population and nothing more.
There are many things other African countries have that we do not have half of it.
South Africa here has become home for many Nigerians in recent years. You wonder why they don't want us there? Well, we don't want ourselves even in our own country
It has been argued over and over that corruption is responsible for our woes and lack of stable electricity.
Perhaps, you are wondering why we haven't been able to do anything about it? Well, people always deserve the kind of government they voted in or allowed to be voted in.
We are here because we've always failed to act and we are always comfortable with anything thrown at us.
We need to get it right and this electricity is a real cheat that shows the inequality we face in this country.
Funny enough, they bill us for this electricity that we don't have and we dare not fail to pay or they will remove our wires from the poles.
They don't give us the light but carry ladder everywhere to cut the wore once they see that a bill has not been paid.
What is the way forward Nigerians? Can we have uninterrupted electricity in this country some day?
Is this just a dream that can ever come to reality because of the kind of leaders we have or we should keep hope alive that some day, things will be better?
