Job is the means through which we earn money to meet up with our daily, monthly or yearly needs.
Some of us work for people which make us employees while those we work for are our employers.
They determine our work condition and how much we get paid. They also determined when we are paid.
Some are paid well while many are underpaid. The employers in most cases exploit our labour force and give us peanuts out of their huge gains.
While we know this, there is little we can do to change that fate because unemployment is a global problem.
It is more in some countries and few in others. Nigeria is one of such countries with huge number of unemployment.
As a country, the workers are also underpaid. The salary graduates get here is around 100-150$ a month.
You are shock i guess? Well, it is the situation of things in this part of the world. Part of what contributed to that is the fact that there are few jobs available.
The number of people available for jobs are many times triple the number of jobs out there. This make these employers to exploit our labour force.
This same problem is responsible for job insecurity in Nigeria. A worker is sure of having his job today but have no hope about tomorrow.
Hardly is there anything like indispensable in this part of the world. Every worker is prone and could be sacked anytime by their employers.
This perhaps informs why most of us want to get a government job. There are many reasons for that. The major reason, however, is job security.
It is a wonderful thing and something workers dream of. It gives one peace of heart.
Unlike the private sector with many demanding tasks, the government work is not a stressful one.
In the private sector, we resume by 8am (some resume by 7-7:30am) and close by 5pm (some close by 6-7pm).
Funny enough, some in the private sector work from Monday to Saturday. The government work is strictly Monday to Friday.
The work gives you ample opportunity to rest on time because by 4pm, you've already close for the day.
There is gratuity and pension attached to working with the government with some other traveling and training benefits.
Some private sectors have these too but very few.
These are things that draw people to government job. The job security is one thing that i, personally, love about government job.
Today, many people have been sacked, many are getting pay cut and those who are jobless remain so in the time of pandemic.
But i am yet to hear similar story in a government establishment. This kinda strengthen the claim that there is a job security in government job.
Perhaps this calls for entrepreneurship? Yes, it did but it goes beyond just starting a business. Maintaining and staying in business is the hardest thing to do.
Not all can raise capital to start their own business and when you do, you need experts to help guide you so that it wont collapse immediately it started.
