There is a common saying that in life we chase shadow instead of reality. This is because our human nature demands almost everything which we sometimes do our best to satisfy.
This thirst for satisfaction moves us to do things that are sometimes injurious to our body. We care less about this because we already set our goal or target on acquiring one material stuff of the other.
In today's society, many work mainly to acquire wealth. Their logic is once they have enough money and are wealthy, they can get all they want.
In most cases, they do this at the detriment of their own self. They forget that their is a material body that they carry up and down to do the biddings of their worldly thirst.
The body, most times, leave them to do all they could provided their strength can still carry them and strike when they least expected.
In today's family, some children don't know their fathers. This is because they go out very early in the morning around 4:30am to 5am while the children are still sleeping.
They come back home very late around 11pm when the children are already sleeping.
In some cases, some work even on weekends to complete works they could not finish during the week.
Some people who live in Europe where they are more civilized even do three shifts just to gather money.
In Nigeria, only two shifts are possible because our labour force is needed from 8am to 5pm or 6pm.
So we can only start another shift around 8pm at night. But in Europe, their jobs are flexible. They could work based on hours and get paid.
So people run chasing money to buy stuffs. Some houses and others just want latest cars.
Among the normal class, we just want to gather money to eat, feed our family and pay house rent.
In most cases, we care less about our health. In fact, we don't do checkups and when it's suggested to us, we just laugh it off and go our way.
If we feel any pain, we just take pain relief. Hardly is there no drugs we didn't know. So we just buy them and life goes on.
Little did we know that the pains are signs that something is about to go wrong.
Sickness just doesn't enter the body and weigh us down. It would have shown us signs that we ignored because we felt, all is well.
What we forget most times is that only a healthy human being can work, acquire money and importantly spend it.
Of what use is the money we are chasing that we end up spending on hospital bed? Of what use is the money that we have and got struck by a disease that same money could not save us?
This shows that we have a misplaced priority. It points to the fact that we should focus more on our health rather than money because health which is not properly taking care of will deteriorate and once that happens, even money might not save us.
It is better we know henceforth that our greatest asset is our health and not our wealth.
