Yes that helps somewhat. There isn't a huge incentive to even try to figure it out and the results may be somewhat unclear anyway. Accounts frequently trading with each other isn't always wash trading either. Most of the stabilizer trades are with a small number of accounts and none of that is actually wash trading.
When it comes down to it, volume just doesn't mean a lot as a statistic. Even highly regulated exchanges have a lot of trades that are close to economically meaningless (various HFT and other automated strategies working on very thin margins or potentially being actually done for signalling purposes with incidental economic justification, even if the traders doing that will deny that since it could sometimes be considered manipulation).
